Urmila Mataji - Irresistible Krishna

H.G. Urmila Mataji

"It's hard to believe that we actually chose to be away from Krishna, but it's true. And there is no way around it, we shouldn't resent Krishna's respect for our free will. Otherwise we'd just be robots. One could ask why doesn't Krishna make Himself irresistible so we would never choose Maya? But actually Krishna is already irresistible. But that doesn't change the fact that we also have to desire to be with Him. All we need to do is express that desire again and He will take us back."

From a lecture at the Pandava Sena Retreat to ISKCON Simhachalam, Jandelsbrunn, Germany, August 2005.

Urmila Mataji, a senior disciple of Shrila Prabhupada, recently completed a doctor of Educational Leadership program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Shrila Prabhupada - Origin of the Jiva

H.D.G. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

"The case of Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu is clear proof of how a living entity coming originally from Vaikunthaloka is encaged in material elements. The living entity takes shelter within the womb of a mother, and with the help of the mother's emulsified ovum the living entity grows a particular type of body."

Shrimad-Bhagavatam 3.16.35 - purport.

Urmila devi-dasi - Women and Marriage

H.G. Urmila devi-dasi

"In the Vedic times, ideally the daughter would be married at the age of 16, because it would ensure that there'd be no need for her to advertise herself. But nowadays she may be 25 years old and still not married, and so it's natural that she has to advertise herself in some way and some do it in more subtle ways than others. Unfortunately, in order to survive in an unideal world, through no fault of her own, a woman has to practice some things that are unideal."

From a lecture at the Pandava Sena Retreat to ISKCON Simhachalam, Jandelsbrunn, Germany, August 2005.

Shrila Prabhupada - Haridasa Thakura - True Brahmana

H.D.G. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Photo from Kurma dasa's website:
http://www.iskcon.net.au/kurma/2005/06/07

"Even though Haridasa was born of a Muhammadan family, Advaita prabhu offered him the first dish of prasada after the performance of a sacred fire ceremony. Haridasa Thakura informed him that he was born of a Muhammadan family and asked why Advaita Prabhu was offering the first dish to a Muhammadan instead of an elevated brahmana. Out of his humbleness, Haridasa condemned himself a Muhammadan, but Advaita Prabhu, being an experienced devotee, accepted him as a real brahmana. Advaita Prabhu asserted that by offering the first dish to Haridasa Thakura, he was getting the result of feeding one hundred thousand brahmanas."

Narsimhadeva - Very Fearful to See

Photoes from Bhaktivedanta Manor: http://www.flickr.com/photos/deitydarshan/tags/nrsimhadeva/

"Oh Nrsimhadeva, whose form is terrible, very fearful to see with strong large nails garlanded by flames. Destroy, destroy my obstacles. Kick out, kick out my fears. Scatter, scatter my enemies, destroy, destroy my karma. Ever forever fulfil all my desires to serve you. Safeguard and safeguard me and all around me. Shri Narsimhadeva ki jaya!"

Indradyumna Swami - Shankaracharya, the Five-year-old Sannyasi!

H.H. Indradyumna Swami

"In this Age of Kali, it is so difficult to become detached from family life and become renounced. Not everyone can be like Adi Shankaracharya. He was adamant on taking sannyasa at the age of five! His mother said 'Even if your life depended on it, I won't let you take sannyasa!' So Shankar went into the river and put his head in between the jaws of a crocodile - 'Mum, now can I take sannyasa?!' Afraid that her son was dying, she said 'OK, OK, you can take sannyasa!' But this is the rare example - of course we give all respects to Shankaracharya although we don't ascribe to his philosophy - he was a liberated soul who had come for a specific mission."

Paraphrased from a Shrimad-Bhagavatam class at ISKCON Radha-Krishna Temple, Soho St, London on 24th February 2006.

ISKCON Radha-Krishna Temple - Lord Narsimhadeva visits Oxford St!

ISKCON Radha-Krishna Temple
Friday 12th May 2006 - Narsimha Chaturdashi Festival

The day was hot and sunny - the perfect atmosphere for Maha-Harinam! Lord Narsimhadeva was being stood up on Soho St, and as the devotees started gathering for Harinam, interested passers-by and employees on work-breaks also gathered round out of curiosity. Then Lord Narsimha began his birthday parade, mercifully giving His darshan to the countless tourists on either side of Oxford St, who stopped and looked at the ferocious form in amazement. Many took out their cameras and mobile cams to take a photo of the Lord. A perfect example of how modern technology should be used in God's service! When they inevitably show their friends the pics on their mobile of the 'Lion-parade' they saw yesterday, more and more people will get the mercy and darshan of Nrsimhadeva.

Shri Narsimha Bhagavan ki jaya!

The Spiritual Scientist - Why Kids Don't Respect Parents Anymore

The Spiritual Scientist

Spiritualizing family relationships was the essence of Vedic culture and the spirit behind matra deva bhava, pitra deva bhava. The mother and father do not become like God just by procreation. When they are themselves devoted to God and inspire, guide and assist their children to become devoted to God, then they become the emissaries of God for their children assisting them in their journey back to God. Devotion to God benefits us not only in the next life, but also in this. A family that prays together stays together. When God is in the center of our hearts and homes, we see our family members as representatives of God in our life and we naturally serve them with respect and love. Conversely the more people neglect or reject God, the more their view of life and family becomes materialistic and they see their family members as nothing but facilitators for their enjoyment. When they stop getting the desired enjoyment from their family members, they dump them as fast as they would dump a dysfunctional TV. No wonder that with the increase in godlessness and materialism, joint families have disintegrated into nuclear families. And sadly now nuclear families are shattering into solitary protons and neutrons orbiting aimlessly in the voidness of the modern concrete jungles. We can easily avoid this catastrophe in our families if we make it our primary responsibility to awaken our devotion to God and help our family members do the same. Then we can live happily ever after - in God's eternal family.

Indradyumna Swami - Prabhupada's Dearmost Deities

H.H. Indradyumna Swami

"So all of you here in London have got the easiest way to experience that higher beauty, not the beauty of the mundane material body. I mean, just look at the incredibly beautiful deities of Shri-Shri Radha-Londonishvara. We know because Shrila Prabhupada said they were his favourite deities. As far as I know, no other temple in the world can make that claim, that they possess Shrila Prabhupada's dearmost deities."

Hridayananda dasa Goswami - "The Bhogi Man!"

H.H. Hridayananda dasa Goswami

"The attitude of the demons is described in Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 16, 13-15. Ishvaroham - I am the lord of everything. Aham bhogi - I am the bhogi man! (devotees laugh) - the enjoyer. Siddhoham - I am perfect. As conditioned souls, we have elements of this demoniac mentality, and so have to carefully guard against it by always keeping the service mentality. Also, the demons say: Yakshye - I shall sacrifice, Dasyami - I shall give charity. Because actually the demons think they are good people. Ravana thought he was doing a great service to the people of Lanka by building a stairway to the heavenly planets so they could enjoy without earning it. There was some Romanian dictator who was standing for trial recently, and he was accused of basically slaughtering millions of innocent people. But he was convinced that he was a good person, his defence was, "I built lots of hospitals in Romania though!" So that is why Krishna explains ity agyana-vimohitah - in other words these demons are deluded by ignorance."

Lord Brahma - Krishna's Smile

Lord Brahma

"The Lord, who is supreme and is the oldest of all, is unlimitedly merciful. I wish that He may smilingly bestow His benediction upon me by opening His lotus eyes. He can uplift the entire cosmic creation and remove our dejection by kindly speaking His directions."

Tamala Krishna Goswami - He won't be strict with you!

H.H. Tamala Krishna Goswami

"Prabhupada said 'Father is not so kind as the Grandfather - so these grandchildren....they don't get more mercy but get 'softer mercy'. because the father can be a little tough but the grandfather's dealings aren't tough, he is so soft. So the grandchildren get easy time'.

"We have our grandfather - Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati and Prabhupada said he was very very strict, but he said he won't be strict with you. And he said whenever I am away, you are getting mercy from Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati."

Shrila Prabhupada - Krishna's mercy is always there

H.D.G. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

"Krishna's mercy is always there. It is your misuse of free will. You are given the opportunity - that is fortune. But you do not accept the fortune. That is your misfortune."

Perth, 10th May, 1975.

Shrila Prabhupada - Forget Rubbish Interpretations

H.D.G. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

"Any question that is put forward may be answered by quoting the autority, and that satisfies the saner section. This is the system in in the law court. The best lawyer gives evidence from the past judgement of the court without taking much trouble to establish his case. This is called the parampara system and learned authorities follow it without manufacturing rubbish interpretations."

Shrila Prabhupada - Spiritual Life = Razor's Edge

H.D.G. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

"Unless one is sufficiently protected by the Lord, he may fall down from his spiritual position; therefore one has to pray constantly to the Lord for protection and the blessing to carry out one's duty. Lord Chaitanya also entrusted His missionary work to His devotees and assured them of His protection against the onslaught of material affection. The path of spiritual life is stated in the Vedas to be like the edge of a sharpened razor. A little inattentiveness may at once create havoc and bloodshed, but one who is a completely surrendered soul, always seeking protection from the Lord in the discharge of his entrusted duties, has no fear of falling into material contamination."

Shrimad Bhagavatam 3.9.24 purport
