Urmila devi-dasi - Women and Marriage

H.G. Urmila devi-dasi

"In the Vedic times, ideally the daughter would be married at the age of 16, because it would ensure that there'd be no need for her to advertise herself. But nowadays she may be 25 years old and still not married, and so it's natural that she has to advertise herself in some way and some do it in more subtle ways than others. Unfortunately, in order to survive in an unideal world, through no fault of her own, a woman has to practice some things that are unideal."

From a lecture at the Pandava Sena Retreat to ISKCON Simhachalam, Jandelsbrunn, Germany, August 2005.

Urmila devi-dasi, a senior disciple of Shrila Prabhupada, recently completed a doctor of Educational Leadership program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
